The fine print
Health and welfare

The Animal Welfare Act 2006 requires animals to be protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease, and the Law applies to anyone responsible for an animal whether on a permanent or temporary basis - including groomers. No animal should suffer fear, or unnecessary stress, as a result of being groomed. If I believe this to be the case, I reserve the right to adapt or halt the groom temporarily, for the benefit of the animal. If the groom cannot be completed, I will charge only for the work done.

As the animal's owner, you agree to disclose any behavioural issues, including previous incidents of aggression, at the initial consultation and prior to each groom. If the animal's behaviour poses a risk to itself, or to anyone else present, I will cease the groom immediately and you will be liable for the full fee.
In the event that a medical condition comes to light during grooming, you will be informed so that you can seek veterinary advice. I will also inform you, should any accidental injuries occur during the grooming process. If I consider your animal requires urgent medical attention, you authorise me to present your animal for emergency veterinary treatment, for which you will be financially liable.

Grooming requirements

For dogs I require:

-
EITHER space to locate a dog bath measuring 125x70cm, with access to hot water and drainage;
-
OR facilities such as a deep sink or bath, in which your dog can be bathed safely.
-
a quiet space to locate a table measuring 125x70cm; this can be placed anywhere with a plug socket and a good source of light.

Cats may be groomed on any flat surface where they feel comfortable. The room should be quiet and escape-proof.

Matted coat policy

Prolonged de-matting can cause significant pain to your animal, and as such, I reserve the right to shave off the coat if it is found to be severely matted. If this is necessary, an additional fee may be charged. Shaving off a coat may reveal areas of inflammation, sores or lesions that were previously hidden. Despite my utmost care, it may also cause irritation to the skin; occasionally this may require veterinary treatment, for which I will not be held responsible.
Some dog coats, particularly those of double-coated breeds such as the German Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, Chow Chow and Pomeranian, may fail to grow back the same way after shaving. This can result in sparse patches, cowlicks, differences in colour or texture, and risk of sun damage to the skin. I do not advocate clipping or shaving these coats, unless it is in the dog’s best interest.
